How to Find a Good Tattoo Artist
Nowadays, more and more people want to get tattoos, and there are too many tattoo shops for everyone to choose from. How to find a tattoo artist you are satisfied with is the first step to getting a tattoo!
For you as a novice, don’t blindly worship the work of any great artist, or want to copy others’ works exactly.
First, you need to determine what style you like: Asian tradition (Chinese style, Japanese style), European and American tradition (Old/New School), totem, illustration, or realism, etc. There are many styles to choose from. It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand the style, but at least you should know what you want to tattoo… words! People! Animals! Flowers and plants… Any pattern you can think of. The preparation for tattooing is very important. Do more research and collect some pictures you like; unless you just want to find a pattern that you like and don’t care about the meaning, then just do it casually. However, if you want good quality, you still have to choose a good tattoo artist.
Secondly, the subjective issue, which is also an important issue that most people consider first – cost. As an artistic craft, “you get what you pay for”. The cost does not only refer to the cost of the tattoo production process, but also includes the tattoo artist’s inspiration and design for the work. Therefore, original tailor-made works are always more valuable than ready-made works; this is because the tattoo artist spends a lot of time (creativity, research, design) to design exclusive works for each customer. Most tattoo artists are art majors, and they have cultivated creative thinking through professional art majors. After years of learning and training in tattooing, they reach a certain level (the length of time depends on the understanding of each tattoo artist). To see a tattoo artist’s technical ability, you can’t just look at how many years of tattoo experience he/she has. The most intuitive way is to look at his/her works, which are clear at a glance; you can also understand whether the tattoo artist’s style is the type you like. Each tattoo artist is good at different styles, and finding the most suitable one can achieve the best effect.
The value of a tattoo is determined by the ability of the tattoo artist: tattoo cost = original design + production process + material cost. Soooo, don’t always compare prices as the first choice when making a tattoo. Tattoos are not a cheap consumption.
Don’t always follow others in choosing tattoo patterns; the same old patterns are not the meaning of tattoos.
Only by creating something new can a replica be transformed into a work of art.
