Is this ointment for during the tattoo, or just aftercare?

Both, actually. It’s built to double as a lubricant while you’re being tattooed, helping the needle glide and locking ink in as it goes; then it switches to protecting and hydrating the skin once the session’s done. One tub covers the whole process rather than needing a separate product for each stage.

Will the menthol in this ointment sting freshly tattooed skin?

Menthol’s in there for a cooling, soothing effect rather than to sting; most people find it comfortable on broken skin. If you’ve reacted to mint or menthol products before, mention it to your artist before they apply it during the session rather than finding out mid-tattoo.  Worth a quick check with your artist, or a patch test, if you know you’re sensitive.

How long does a 280g tub usually last?

You’ll get through nowhere near the whole tub for one tattoo’s healing window; only a thin layer’s needed per application, so a 280g size is really built to cover several sessions or pieces over time.

What's the difference between this ointment, the aftercare balm, and the aftercare cream?

This one’s the heavier, do-it-all option, made for use during tattooing as well as after. We also stock a tattoo aftercare balm and an aftercare cream for later in the healing process. If you’re not sure which stage you’re at or which product actually fits, it’s worth asking your artist during your appointment rather than guessing.

How often should I apply it, and for how long after getting tattooed?

As a general rule, with a heavier ointment like this, a thin layer two to three times a day for the first few days is common, tapering off as the skin heals.
