FAQ
What do dog tattoos represent?
Dog tattoos are a powerful symbol of loyalty, love, and companionship. For many Kiwis, they serve as a tribute to a beloved pet or a representation of the deep bond shared with dogs. Whether it is a memorial piece or a celebration of friendship, a dog tattoo is a heartfelt way to honour your four-legged companion.
Can I get a custom design of my dog as a tattoo?
Absolutely! Our tattoo artists specialise in custom dog tattoos, bringing your vision to life. Whether you have a photo, sketch, idea, or real paw friend, we will personalise the design to capture your dog’s unique features. At Dreamhands, we work closely with you to ensure the final piece reflects your pet’s personality in the most meaningful way.
Where is the best place on the body to get a dog tattoo?
The best placement for a canine tattoo depends on its size and style. Popular choices include:
- Forearm or calf – Ideal for medium to large detailed portraits.
- Chest or back – Great for large, intricate designs.
- Wrist or ankle – Perfect for small, minimalist tattoos.
How much does a paw print tattoo cost in Auckland?
A paw print tattoo in Auckland typically ranges from NZD 100 to NZD 200 for a small, simple design. However, pricing can vary depending on size, placement, and detail. For an accurate quote, we recommend that you book a consultation with one of our artists
Are dog tattoos a popular choice in New Zealand?
Yes! Dog tattoos are growing in popularity across NZ, especially as commemorative tattoos. Many Kiwis choose them to honour a favourite pet or express their deep love for dogs. Whether it is a realistic portrait, a minimalist outline, or a paw print tattoo, these designs are a meaningful way to keep your furry friend close forever. Some other popular designs include the elephant tattoos and tiger tattoos done by people who find a unique connection to the gentle giant and the roaring cat of the jungles.
Do your artists offer consultations before the tattoo session?
Yes, we offer consultations at both our tattoo studios in Auckland to help refine your dog tattoo idea. During the session, our artists will discuss placement, style, and aftercare, ensuring you get a tattoo that is both meaningful and beautifully executed. We are here to guide you every step of the way!
FAQs
What needle diameters and group sizes are available for the OG Red Arrow Round Liner?
Four diameters: 0.22mm (Super Bugpin), 0.25mm, 0.30mm (Bugpin), 0.35mm (Regular). Six group configs: 03, 05, 07, 09, 11, 14. Fine line and portrait artists tend to stay in the 03-07 range on the smaller diameters. Bolder outlines move into the larger groups at 0.35mm.
Round Shader version in the same series: OG Red Arrow RS.
What taper size do the Round Liner cartridges use?
7mm taper (1402-5.5mm). Longer taper means a finer needle tip; sharper entry, cleaner line deposit, less dragging on the skin around it. That is why this cartridge suits fine line and detail work rather than packing or shading.
The Round Shader uses a 3.5mm taper; shorter, blunter, built for area coverage rather than line precision. Both in the Tattoo Needles category.
What sterilisation standard do the OG Red Arrow cartridges meet?
Ethylene oxide sterilisation across every cartridge in the box, CE-certified. EO is a cold-process method; no heat or moisture involved, so the packaging stays intact, and the needle geometry is not affected. Needles are 304 stainless steel.
For studio and supply questions beyond specs, the Dreamhands FAQ page covers common ones.
How does the back-flow membrane work on these cartridges?
A membrane inside the cartridge stops ink from being pulled back up into the grip and motor area between needle strokes. Without it, each stroke creates suction that draws ink up through the tip. Over a long session, that contaminates the machine and creates hygiene issues between clients.
The transparent body lets you watch the ink level during the session. Full Tattoo Needles range at Dreamhands.
Are these cartridges compatible with most tattoo machines?
Universal fit confirmed on the product page; works with most machines on the market. Old coil setups and heavily non-standard machines are the exception. Standard pen and rotary machines will be fine.
